Respite Care with TLC

The definition of respite care is, “a short period of rest or relief from something difficult” or “an interval of rest or relief”.

Respite care is provided to offer a break from caring to a primary carer. Being a full-time carer is extremely rewarding, however, at TLC we understand it can be very demanding and exhausting, both mentally and physically. Respite care can be provided full or part-time for any time periods from regular half or full days up to a week or more.

Respite care is often a lifeline to full-time carers and enables them to have time off from their caring demands to run errands, have time away and have some time to themselves to stay healthy mentally and physically.

It can sometimes be difficult for a full-time carer to allow someone else to come into their home and look after the one that they love, however it is a fact that full-time carers need time away for respite for themselves.

Our respite care process

Respite care services are individual the person we are caring for and as with all our other care services Total Living Care (TLC) spend time with the person we will be caring for and their families to understand the respite care that is needed. One of our highly-experienced Care Managers will come out to your home to assess and discuss your requirements before a care plan is formulated for you to agree and sign off.

When this is complete we then match a carer for you by looking at their qualifications, experience and personal interests. We will often arrange for several visits from your care worker to spend time with you helping you to care for your loved one, for you to get to know them and for them to understand their needs and care routine. When you are happy our care worker is ready to provide the respite care to the standard you expect we can then agree when the respite care can start.

We offer respite care for regular sessions or for times when you may need a day to get things done or for you to go away and have a break. We always recommend our matched carer starts with you for short sessions to start with and this gives you the confidence that you are around if they have any questions or concerns before any longer sessions are arranged.

Our respite care services mirror the care you provide your loved one and can include; providing personal care such as help with dressing, feeding, bathing, toileting, preparing food, eating, social interaction, physio, shopping, washing clothes, cleaning and much more.
